Attention BRASS Carriers and BRASS Drivers:

May 1, 2005 Deadline for BRASS Shipments Approaching

As the May 1st deadline for BRASS drivers to have a FAST card approaches, it is apparent that despite vigorous outreach and extended FAST Enrollment Center hours, many drivers have still not obtained their FAST cards. Other drivers, who recently applied for FAST, will not have their applications processed in time to meet the May 1st cutoff date.

Brokers and ABI Filers are strongly urged to consider converting BRASS releases to the Pre-Arrival Processing System (PAPS) for clients who are using carriers whose drivers do not yet have their FAST ID cards. The PAPS application process is quicker and less complex. Participation in PAPS will allow those non-compliant BRASS drivers an alternative method to obtain legal release while pursuing their FAST applications/FAST cards, as well as prevent the unnecessary return of their trucks to Canada.

Information concerning the PAPS application process may be found on the Customs
